Opposition Leader Peter Dutton said maybe if the No vote succeeded in the referendum, he’d hold another better one if/when he becomes PM. This idea went down like a lead balloon. Indigenous leaders have already rejected the Coalition’s version of constitutional recognition, before the Voice proposal was even made. So next he suggested that Albanese change the question – legal experts say that’s not possible.
Marcia Langton, respected Indigenous professor, gave an address to the National Press Club where she said the abuse directed at the Yes campaign has been enormous and supported by the media. She also said to the progressive No voters that there would not be a second opportunity like this anytime soon.
A great TikTok from EarthlyGigi, which debunks some of the lies being told about the Voice. But the best bit is where she shows old clips of fear-mongering about the Wik and Mabo native title cases. Sounds familiar?
A bunch of people went around on the socials this week claiming that the referendum had just been cancelled by the High Court. They were wrong. The doofus (suspended doctor William Bay) who started this rumour had his application to the High Court rejected because it was “frivolous”.
The podcast A Rational Fear has a good skit about the “divisive” nature of the Voice.
